Public Service? Remember SATO

Public Service? Remember SATO

(This piece was delivered during when I was invited during the anniversary of the Civil Service Commission a couple of years ago. This edited version is posted as the elected officials will officially start their public service.)

S stands for SINCERITY. Those who want to be a public servant must be sincere. There is no room for wearings masks.

A for Accountability. A public servant must be responsible and accountable for what he or she is doing in the office. He/She is answerable to the people from whom the power of the office emanates.

T for Trust. A public service is a public trust as a saying goes. The person is entrusted with power but that power is the power to serve. Power is not meant for personal gain but a medium towards serving the many. Power is not for protection of personal interest nor for the interest of the family or some groups. The person is given power in order to deliver the basic services. A public servant is basically katiwala.

O for OBEDIENCE. A public servant must follow the law in which the office is governed. All actions must be in accordance to the precepts in connection to the power he/she possess. And most of all, a public servant must follow the will of God.

Public service equals SATO.

Kapag public service Sato. At kapag Sato ito ay si Nene. At kapag Nene may love.
