Practicing English

Practicing English
(Mt. 12: 1-8)

I still remember when Cardinal Sin was still alive he said: “I’ll use devil’s money to help the poor.” Many had criticized the good Cardinal saying that it is not proper to receive money from a gambling corporation since the Church is against any gambling whether legal or illegal. Some also mentioned the principle “the end does not justify the means.”

Hard as it is to understand the statement of the Cardinal, but one thing that we can see is the value of life. More than anything, life must be taken care of and must be number one in the ladder of values. Any law must be enforced for the protection and promotion of life. In fact, a law that does not promote the common good ceases to be a law.

The Gospel today presents to us the reality that life is of greatest value. The disciples were hungry and so they “started to pluck the ears of corn and eat them.” The Pharisees saw that as not in accordance to the Sabbath law since they did that during the Sabbath. We remember Jesus said that Sabbath is there for the people and not the other way around.

Let us value life…
