Remembering Anna

Remembering Anna Jamina Cabatac

Month of March is the month of graduations. This is the time when students and their parents reap the fruit of their labor for the academic pursuit. This is the time when honor students are given medals symbolizing their academic mastery. This is the time when students leave a chapter in their life and jump into a new challenge. This is the time when graduates feel the excitement of entering another year coupled that with the feelings of fear and anxiety brought by uncertainties of the future.

Last year’s graduation in Mamburao Central School was far from a normal graduation occasion. Anna Cabatac, a graduating honor pupil, was kidnapped, raped and murdered. Who would not cry for vengeance for that evil act? Justice for Anna!

I am writing this article not to bring again the pain which the family and friends of Anna. I am writing to send a message that after a year, during this graduation month, we remember Anna.

Year has passed. The legal battle continues. We hope that the judge who hears this case would expedite the coming of the judgment for the perpetrators of the said crime.

Until now we still shout: Justice for Anna!

Let us pray for the repose of the soul of Anna.
